LEVELS OF PROSTAGLANDIN F2a AND THROMBOXANE B2 IN ELECTRICALLY BURNED TISSUE

Abstract
The objection of this study focussed on examining whether tissue necrosis caused by electrical injury was progressive or not by quantitative analysis of prostaglandin F2a and thromboxane B, which have been known as inflammatory mediators. Fifty rats, average weight 250 gm, were divided into 5 groups : one normal control group and four electrically burned groups (first day, second day, fourth day, seventh day groups) by post-bum periods with 10 rats in each group, in the burned groups, the electrial burn was developed by passage of a 300 volt alternating current for 10 seconds through both knee areas.
After that, two specimens consisting of soft tissues were taken at areas of approximately 1 cm from the electrical entry wound, and they were made into an homogenate. The level of prostaglandin F2a and thromboxane B2 of the tissue were measured by RIA assay.
The results were as follows
In the normal control group, the level of prostaglandin F2a and thromboxane B, were on an average :5.3¡¾3.4 and 17.6¡¾3.9ng/mg protein in each.
in the proximal icm area of the electrically burned groups, the level of prostaglandin F2a and thromboxane B, were rapidly elevated and maximized up to 5.6 times, and 7.5 times in the first day group, and 5.3 times, and 7.3 times in the second day group in each. Both datas abruptly decreased and returned to nearly normal level in the fourth day group, and showed little change in the seventh ddy group.
Ia the proximal 1-2cm area of the electrically burned groups, the level of prostaglandin F2a and thromboxane B2 were maximized in the second day group, and had a similar course.
